The fact that God raised him from the dead, never to decay, is stated in these words: 'I will give you the holy and sure blessings promised to David.' So it is stated elsewhere: 'You will not let your Holy One see decay.' For when David had served God's purpose in his own generation, he fell asleep; he was buried with his fathers and his body decayed."
 Thoughts for Today:
Not long ago while browsing in an antique store with my wife, I picked up and leafed through the personal journal of a man who lived a hundred years ago (in the early 1900's). What I found most interesting was the intensity of his concerns about a number of events in his life: his love for a girl; the dislike his future father-in-law had for him; the concern he had for the well-being of his children; confusion over his career and competition at work; worry over finances; concern about a political election; etc. I was struck by how much it sounded like my life (or the life of one of you); despite the fact it was written a century ago.
After a few minutes I lost interest and put the journal back on the table where I found it. The $1.50 price tag greater than I found it's worth to be. Why? Because his worries and concerns about his life were not that important to anyone other than him; they didn't matter to me at all. After all, why would I care what color he chose to paint his house or the conflict it caused with his wife? One hundred years later none of the decisions he agonized over seemed to matter much.
So it is for us as well: one hundred years, one thousand years, two thousand years from now, what difference will it make to anyone whether or not you got the promotion you wanted or the car you just had to have? None at all; everything turns to dust and decays, just ask Solomon. So why do we treat every decision we make as if it involved life or death? Why are we more concerned about acquiring junk than we are about our eternal reward? Jesus said in Matthew 6:19-20, "Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also."
David wasn't perfect, but he had a heart for the Lord and as a result he served God's purpose in his generation. In other words, what you are striving for or thinking about says a lot about your heart and correspondingly your purpose. Jesus tells us in the parable of the rich fool, "But God said to him, 'You fool! This very night your life will be demanded from you. Then who will get what you have prepared for yourself?" Whose purposes are you serving, the Lord's or your own? What are you preparing for: life on this earth which decays or eternal life?
Questions to Ponder: If you died tonight, what have you stored up -- earthly or heavenly treasures? What are you striving towards right now? Is it a material or spiritual goal? Answer this question: What is God's purpose for you in this generation? Are you still wandering around accumulating earthly treasures or are you a man after God's own heart? What will you do today to change your goals? |

Jesus Christ is "the way, the truth, and the life." (John 14:6) No one comes to God but by Him. No one knows the truth apart from Him. No one has life except through Him. Won't you believe this in your heart and call upon the Lord Jesus to save you? For "if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised Him from the dead, thou shalt be saved." (Romans 10:9)
God in His love and grace offers you salvation from sin and death. Your response to God determines whether you will spend eternity in heaven or in hell. Have you believed God and received His love through faith in Jesus Christ? If not, believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and receive Him as your Saviour, and you shall be saved from sin and death and have everlasting life.

A personal note:
Many of us may think, (me included) how can God love me, because of things we may have done. But, God loves you and me and everyone on the earth. Not because of anything that we have done or not done, we do not earn His love.
It is because of what is in Him. He truly does love you,
with a perfect love, an unconditional love.
