On this page, we will try to give you a feel for the boys here at Hearthside.  We love each and every one of them.  Every one of them is the kind of boy you would love to own - but too bad, they live here with us :o).  We have 5 boys, and between them are able to produce many different colors.  I am going to try to figure out how to show their pedigrees too, but that may take a while, and a visit (or 2 or 3) from a computer whiz.  Enjoy your stay, and come back anytime.

Jed - August 2002. He got his start at Oakwood Cockers in Maryland.

We sent in DNA on Jed and Gianni to test for PRA-PRCD.

Both are totally clear.  They are not carriers, have

no trace of it.

This is a DNA test - it is a one time test.

This is our Jed.

I have to say, when we first went to pick this boy up,
I thought he was rather funny looking.  He was for sale on line, and we wanted a sable male.  We had made the purchase, as many of you do, just from pictures.  Well, it took no time at all for him to have all of us wrapped around his waggy tail, his very sweet - so calm disposition, everything.  I can't say a bad thing about this boy - oops, except that he does not like kitties.
Maybe he was not raised around them.

Our puppies have plenty of experience with cats who like them also.

This guy loves to be groomed, even his cute 'little' Cocker feet.   His official name is Misty Cove's Legend of the Fall, but we call him Jed - short for Jedidiah Beans of Hearthside.
These pictures were taken on our way home from TN, with him, when we first got Jed in Sept. 2005.
He is such a good boy, and has a great disposition, loves people, falls alseep on the grooming table, and always has a smile on his face.  His pedigree has 5+ generations of champions on Dad's side, and his mama is so nice also.  He is truly an amazing dog.  We are very thankful for him, and love having him as part of our family.

Romeo - Jan. 2006.  He was born in Mississippi, at
J-Hugh Cockers.

This Romeo is another easy going Cocker boy.  We got him in October of 2006.  We were on the hunt for a black, white and tan boy - this guy is perfect.  He walks like he is going to a show all the time, and is passing that on to his 'chilluns'.

He is a total goof ball, and though he is everyone's boy, he has rather claimed Becky to be his girl.

Romeo is another big love and is very sweet. He has a great disposition and conformation too.  We got Romeo from J-Hugh Cockers in Mississippi. He is chocked full of T Parti, Roadshow, Schiely's and other great names in the Cocker Spaniel annuls of fame. :0)

Hearthside's Captain Seamus

Hearthside's Captain Seamus is one of our home-grown boys.

His dad is our Jed, Mom is our Samantha Rose.  Cap'n started out in Nov. 07, as Crocodile Dundee.  What a character.

We loved this guy so much, and wanted a nice chocolate boy - so we kept him.  He loves to romp and play, he is a super happy guy and gets along great with everyone.

Seamus is actually a chocolate sable, not a solid chocolate.

It will be interesting to see what we get from him.  He is on the smaller side, took after Samantha there - that is also going to be very nice.   You can see what a great coat of hair he has.

Oh, Gi - aahn - ni -  Hey, sweet baby face.

This is Gianni Versace.
He is incredibly gorgeous and is such a super nice boy.  Gianni loves people, he is happy to see you and just seems to have a smile on his face all the time.
Gianni and I are both native Californians.
He was born in Fresno, CA - and that is where
I graduated from high school.

Rock is such a sweet guy.  I picked him up at the Springfield airport on April 15th - PayDay for the USA  :o)

Well, let me tell you - I was talking to him through his crate - while the paper work was getting done.  He was wagging his tail and getting ready to make my day with the sweetest personality ever.  A skycap was

there with her cart, we took Rock outside, I opened up the crate - got leash on immediately, but shoot, he wasn't going anywhere.  I was his target.  I told the young lady, this is the first time we've met.  You would not know it.  We walked around, so he could get his 'land legs' back.  Honestly, gave him some water, and off we went.  We made a few stops on the way home, ran into my cousin John and his wife Anne at the post office.  Had to show them Rock.  Anne was like in total amazement at how friendly he was.  He laid on the ground, stretched out his feet, so they were touching mine.  He was saying, this is my person.  You don't have to wonder why we love our Cocker Spaniels.  Rock was given a hip evaluation and has a GOOD rating - December 30, 2008 - 34 months old.  O.F.A. number: CS-10741G34M-VPI

Also checked were his knees / patellas.  That examination resulted in a NORMAL rating.

O.F.A. number: CS-PA481/34M/P-VPI  - on December 29, 2008

Rock also has had his eyes checked.  This was done July 3, 2008.

He has a Normal rating - tested by Dr. Stephen Bistner, DVM, DACVO

WHAT IS A COCKER SPANIEL?  -  (An Owner's Guide to the Cocker Spaniel   by Judith P. Iby ~ R.V.T.)

"The merry little Cocker Spaniels are the smallest members of the sporting dog family, but they possess the biggest hearts.  Their happy dispositions and small size make them ideal house dogs.  Cocker Spaniels are faithful companions and very family oriented.  They thrive on human companionship and will do their utmost to please their family.

Would you believe that a spaniel arrived in New England after sailing on the Mayflower from Plymouth, England, in 1620?  Actually two dogs sailed, the other was a Mastiff.  Although spaniels originated in Spain, they were also developed in France and England.  In time, they became popular all over Europe before coming to America.

The Cocker today is derived from many types of spaniels from centuries ago.  Some of there were called pet spaniels because they were small.  They included the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, the English Toy Spaniel, the black and white Dutch Spaniel, the red and white Italian Spaniel and a straight-coated, web-toed, black water spaniel called the Pyrame.  Their colors are visible today in our present Cockers.

Perhaps you are reading this before buying your first Cocker Spaniel.  You are taking a step in the right direction.  Perhaps you want to replace a lost Cocker, which speaks for itself.  Most Cocker owners would not have any other breed."
