Question: Male or Female? Which one is right for your home?

To help you answer this question, I have done a bit of research to help out. I am really just putting down what I have gathered from others.

Males

Little boys fit very nicely in homes with energetic, young children. They tend to bond easier, and be more lovable. They are more outgoing and sure of themselves, always showing a sense of self-confidence. Boys love to be part of the action and even when older, they love socializing within the environment of an active family. They seem to be more light-hearted, with a ‘have fun’ personality. A male is always eager to please his owner, takes very easily to children and is more accepting of other pets. You can rely on the male dog to be your best friend and loyal companion in any situation. They will always be young at heart.

Males tend to be larger, but that is not 100% of the time. Neutering by 6 months or before maturity is recommended, just so they do not start the "leg-lifting" habit. It is cheaper to have a male neutered than to have a female spayed.

Females

Little girls go well in homes that are on the quieter side ~ such as older couples, families with older teens or college age ‘children’, because they tend not to care about the busy life. They like their alone time, and can be more aloof.

Females like to play on their own terms. They tend to be "alpha" or territorial. Once they mature, they are not quite as social as the boys, and are quite happy to go find their bed. They will be playful as puppies, but when older, prefer to sit back and watch what is going on around them.

Grown girls can be emotional if they don’t get their way. A female will possibly ‘hump’ just like a male - getting her spayed before she has her first heat cycle (as early as 6-7 months) will cause her to loose a lot of her "bad" traits too, just as with the males.

**Having said all of the above: I have to say that our little girls are very eager to please, and are very loving and playful also. I do see some moodiness in our adult girls and none in the males. (It’s the girl thing.) We have one female who definitely likes to mind everyone else’s business. They like being the ‘queen’ or in other words, 'the boss’.

**We raise all of our puppies, male and female, with lots of love, attention, and socializing. We want them to be tuned to people, so they will be good pets. Because there are many who have the same misconception that I had (girls are smarter, easier to train, etc), I wanted to share with you what I have found. Boys definitely make great pets too.
